Thoughts on 10 consecutive days of meditation

After deciding to give this meditation thing a go, I’ve started seeing some benefits and thought I would share the highlights of what I’ve learned.

Real quick…here’s my personal schedule. I meditate at 3pm for 6 minutes. If I’m struggling to focus within that 6 minutes, I’ll go for a few more. The screenshot above is 6 minutes plus an additional 4:19.

  • Fewer squirrels

One noticeable shift for me has been it’s easier to focus to open tasks. I can be easily distracted when I have a long to-do list but in the past 10 days I feel like have more discipline to complete those tasks before starting another.

  • Productivity

Because I’ve been able to focus a bit better means I’ve accomplished more in that time span. A little extra focus has lead to an increase in productivity, which I’m enjoying.

  • Sleep

My main hope with this experiment of regular meditation is to build better sleep patterns. I haven’t been a very good sleeper over the past few years and research is showing that consistent meditation can help with that.

So far, I’ve seen a few extra 7 hour nights, which is a TON of sleep for me. I still have 4-5 hour nights, which has been the norm, but hopefully those 7 hour nights will become more consistent as I progress.

  • Conclusion…so far

So far it’s all been positive. The returns are pretty great, especially considering I only spend 6 to 10 minutes at a time.

I can easily say that I get far more out of this than what I was expecting. And I’m very early on in the learning process.
